Cataract & presbyopia
Cataract diagnosis Korea patients receive: tests and surgical equipment
Good vision after surgery starts with a thorough exam. Our cataract diagnosis Korea patients receive looks at far more than the cloudy lens, from the cornea to the optic nerve. Here is what we check, how we measure your lens power and which surgical systems we choose from.

What the cataract exam checks
A cataract exam is not only about the cataract. We check the eye from the cornea to the optic nerve for any abnormality. This helps us find other complicated eye diseases and predict your vision after surgery.
Two things matter most for your result after surgery: an accurate measurement of the lens power you need, and a well-performed operation. Accurate measurement depends on both the device and the examiner's experience.
IOL power measurement with IOL Master
We measure with the IOL Master (Zeiss, Germany), a non-contact device. It measures your eye without touching it and supports accurate lens power selection. The result feeds into the choice described in our guide to cataract IOL types.
The cataract diagnosis Korea visitors receive here uses more than the IOL Master. Our equipment page lists the other examination devices we use. If you have symptoms already, see presbyopia and cataract symptoms to compare.
LENSAR laser: laser-assisted cataract surgery
The LENSAR laser is our laser cataract surgery system. It uses 3D augmented reality technology to capture the eye in 3D from 360-degree angles, analyze it, then plan a 1:1 customized operation.
Unlike other laser cataract systems, LENSAR has its own sensor that scans how dense your cataract is and rebuilds it automatically in 3D. The plan is based on that density, and the laser aims to reduce damage to the lens.

Hand-made vs laser-made capsule opening
| Conventional ultrasound surgery | Laser-assisted surgery | |
|---|---|---|
| Capsulotomy (opening the lens capsule before the main step) | Done by hand, so uniform results are difficult to expect | The laser cuts the front capsule into a precise circle |
| Effect on the new lens | Depends on the surgeon's manual opening | Helps position the artificial lens more stably |
Signature Pro: ultrasound phacoemulsification
Signature Pro is an ultrasound cataract system with a dual pump. The surgeon can change method to suit your cataract. It uses artificial intelligence to keep the front chamber stable and control eye pressure during surgery, protecting the optic nerve and retina.

- ELLIPS FX technology uses less total energy, so there is less impact on the eye, less corneal swelling and faster vision recovery.
- FUSION dual pump system lets the surgeon change method according to cataract severity or pattern. Fast, accurate fluid control raises safety and shortens surgery time.
- Auto detection helps remove the lens stably.
- WhiteStar micro pulse function minimizes heat damage at the incision.
- Advanced cataracts that were once hard to operate on can now be treated safely with the improved equipment.

Questions answered
What does a cataract exam include?
We check the cataract and also the eye from the cornea to the optic nerve, looking for other eye diseases and to predict your vision after surgery.
How is lens power measured before surgery?
We use the IOL Master (Zeiss, Germany), a non-contact device. Accurate lens power measurement is one of the most important factors for your result.
What does the LENSAR laser do?
It scans the eye in 3D, measures cataract density with its own sensor and plans a customized operation. In capsulotomy it cuts the front capsule in a precise circle.
What is special about Signature Pro?
Its dual pump lets the surgeon change method for each cataract, and ELLIPS FX uses less energy, which means less corneal swelling and faster vision recovery.
