The clinic
First visit guide: what happens from registration to discharge
This first visit guide walks you through a day at Sky Eye Clinic in Seoul. You will see the 11 steps of the eye exam and consultation, then the 6 steps of surgery day. Knowing the order ahead of time makes the visit calmer, whichever procedure you choose.
Before you come
This first visit guide starts with the booking rule: every examination, surgery and consultation at Sky Eye Clinic is by appointment. Book first through the free consultation page, and check the directions for the route from Nonhyeon Station.
The clinic's first-visit tour is built around LASIK, but the exam sequence applies to other vision correction too. Compare your options on the vision correction overview.
Your eye exam and consultation, step by step
- Registration and appointment check
Confirm your online or phone reservation at the desk. If you have not booked, staff help you register there.
- Consultation room interview
Staff check the basics needed for your exam. They ask whether this is your first eye clinic visit and about any existing conditions.
- Waiting before the exam
Wait in the waiting room until your turn for the comprehensive eye exam.
- Auto-refraction test
This measures your myopia and astigmatism, plus the curvature radius of your cornea.
- Intraocular pressure test
High pressure can point to glaucoma, and pressure readings change after surgery, so this test is essential. Normal pressure is 10 to 20 mmHg. If yours is higher, you get a detailed glaucoma exam.
- Corneal topography test
This equipment maps the curvature and shape of the corneal surface to detect keratoconus and irregular corneas.
- Fundus photography
A digital camera photographs the retina, the nerve layer inside the eye, so staff can check the optic nerve and retina.
- Additional precision tests
Further tests in the exam program help analyze your eyes and plan a better surgical result.
- Avellino corneal dystrophy DNA test
This test is optional. If the result is positive, surgery is avoided for your safety.
- One-to-one counselor consultation
A counselor explains your test results and the vision correction option that suits you, and answers your questions.
- Doctor's exam and consultation
The doctor examines your eyes in detail, including slit-lamp microscopy, then holds a full pre-surgery consultation.
Equipment used in these tests is listed on the equipment page. If your results show a condition that rules out surgery, the team explains this during your consultation, as this first visit guide notes.
Surgery day, step by step
- Pre-surgery preparation
You receive detailed instructions on preparing for surgery and complete the surgery consent form.
- Surgery by your doctor
After cleansing and sterilization, surgery begins. It takes about 15 minutes, though the time varies with the method.
- Surgery completion
Surgery ends following the doctor's instructions in the operating room, and staff guide you to the recovery room.
- Rest in the recovery room
Close your eyes and rest.
- Post-surgery eye checkup
The doctor examines your eyes and explains your surgical result.
- Aftercare instructions and discharge
You learn how to care for your eyes, discuss follow-up appointments, ask remaining questions, then go home.
